This short story Pointed out alot of important things about womens roles in college. It did not just look at the role women played in college today but it also talked about how there role has changed over time. It said that higher education has only been offered to women for about the last hundred years no matter there race or wealth. Reading this really surprised me because in my eyes i see women being treated as equal to men in all the classes iv'e ever been in and it is hard for me to think that only about a hundred years ago there were no women at all getting a higher education. It also kinda surprises me that there is still only a few women in the upper levels of faculty and administration in most institutions. I feel that there should be an equal amount of women and men throughout the administration of an institution. The author also talks about how and education should be be claimed and not received and i feel that is a very true statement because nothing should aver just be handed to someone they always should have to work for everything they get in life.

The first reading i read was about Hirsch and how he is concerned with the decline of literacy in America. He feels that students do not know enough about the historic events and should learn them before they are taught classes like homemaking and income management. While on the other hand there are many critics that feel our schools should continue to encourage cultural diversity and reflect our pluralistic culture. The video our group had to watch was Paul Peterson and Nathan Glazer talking about E.D Hirsch and what he has done and how he is seen in society today. They talk about how Hirsch has come out with a new book called the Making Of Americans And how he has campaigned for content learning and not learning skills in the field of citizenship. They also talk about how he has been very poorly received by people in schools of education and how that is mystifying to them since what he does has been so important. At the end of the video they talk about how E.D Hirsch is trying to teach kids about what the government does instead of how to influence the government. They also say that He is trying to stay away from teaching kids methods and more into significant objectives. I feel that teaching kids this way would help because they would be able to learn about all the historic events, landmarks, time periods, etc that have happened in the past that are just getting pushed to the side in todays methods of teaching.
